Let's Make IT

Post by Dzani on Sun Dec 19, 2010 1:51 pm

Hi to everyone !
I decided to publish today this topic called " Let's Make IT " .
You are probably wondering what do I mean with that. I'll explain it in details.

I thought that we ( Active members from this Forum ) should make an expansion pack, total conversion or just an update to Worms 4 Mayhem.
Every day, I stumble upon various tweaks from various sites. Some are good, some are bad but they only change a tiny bit of the whole game.
There were few packs like : " Worms 4 Innovation " , " Worms 4 Extreme Fusion " and Draven made " Worms 4 Rock " .

I would like us to try and do something like that. I believe, if we all try it and work together that we will create awesome update for this game.

How do we do it ?

I thought that 4-8 of us worked on that project. We should be working on Tweaks Folder, Hud Folders, Map Folder and scripts.
We will all have different roles in Project. Some of us will be working on tweaks, while the others , for example, on Graphics.

First of all, we should make suggestions about changes here. What should be changed and how.
After we discussed and accepted suggestions, we would begin to gather all resources we need.
Yeah, this is the hardest part. We change the game Data, experiment and test it.
After it's done, we will have all files packed in .exe and submitted online for download Smile

There is no time-limit for this. You can just do it when you have free time and when you feel like it.

So, what do you think about this?

I think its a good idea. I always wanted to develop a HUD like the one started by kilburn in this thread
I can do HUD and tweaking, but i don't know anything about scripts or pretty much anything else :/

I have no idea. I think editing graphics would be enough Smile We should just do it in a " cool " way.

Yes you can.
Just a question, is there anyone here that does model editing?

Sure, I will join.

Re: Let's Make IT

Well I know models for W4M can be made in 3ds max. But since Team 17 used Maya to make their maps, I assume that they were made with it as well. So it might be possible to make 3d models for W4M in Maya. I hope so.

So that is three of us, now I would suspect No Fear and/or Draven would join this as well. So that would make 4-5 of us. Atm, for now I would prefer working with someone and not all by myself.

Tweaks Folder, Hud Folders, Map Folder and scripts.
We will all have different roles in Project. Some of us will be working on tweaks, while the others , for example, on Graphics.

Copy below and tell your skills.
Tweaking:
Scripting:
Map making:
Modeling:
Hud making:
Landscape texturing:

If I missed anything that seems important, just say so below.

Tweaking: ok to great, it depends.
Scripting: I don't have much experience, when I go in the scripts folder I come out with who knows what results.
Map making: Good-great
Modeling: Never done it
Hud making: Never made a hud before, but I can try.
Landscape texturing: As you see, I have made a texture tweak before, but none of the textures were made by me. They were taken from texture sites or games.

I'm not good at figuring out files, so if someone can figure out a way to make the model work in Maya, I'll do the rest.

tweaking: good. very good with ideas
HUD: very good, and I have all the programs
modeling: I'm a beast haha
maps, landscape texturing, and scripting: don't know how

Whoa, nice.

For making maps, look at this.

If I remember, there was a silent basic tut vid that came with the program.

I'll stick to doing the 3D models upgrade for now. I just need someone to tell me how to open the models in Maya

I'm not the person to be asked that, because I really don't know. Someone who has done modeling for W4M before would be a good person to ask.

Does anyone know how to add more textures to the game then just the original? I know AlexBond has done it with his W3D map launcher, and he also done it on his own map.

ok i found this tutorial: http://worms4mayhem.forum-motion.com/worms-4-mayhem-f1/3ds-max-and-worms-4-mayhem-t58.htm

the problem is that this is for 3Ds Max, not for Maya. i don't want to have to download 3Ds Max just for this. anyone know of a way to export them to a Maya format?

I'm not sure, but someone might of made a xom plugin to go with 3ds max. If it was possible to export in some Maya format, we still have exporting to think of. You could try contacting AlexBond maybe and ask if it is possible to model for the game with any other 3d programs besides 3ds max. I don't know where you can get the quickest response from him. Worms 3D Portal is his site so you can try there for the quickest response.

Idownloaded the trial or for 3ds max. I was able to export from 3ds max to maya but it takes too long. I won't be able to do all the models that compose the game. I won't have a compute for a day or two, so can someone please contact Alex bond for me? it would be greatly appreciated
